Our Urban Design + Planning Studio is seeking a senior-level Urban Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate has experience working on planning and urban design projects throughout California, including visioning, master plans, streetscapes, community plans, specific plans, zoning and form-based codes, design standards, feasibility studies, and community engagement. We seek someone with a collaborative attitude, a capacity for innovative, elegant solutions, and an interest in working in a fast-paced studio environment.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Lead design development and visioning in collaboration with clients and the design director, including project management, and the preparation of design and planning studies, site analysis, site plans, feasibility studies, and design concepts and strategies.
Create 2D and 3D plans, graphics, massing, building prototypes, site studies, and concept diagrams.
Develop 3D renderings and before/after simulations.
Analyze existing conditions, perform scale comparisons, precedent studies, zoning code reviews, and general plan analysis; prepare master plans, specific plans, and other urban form regulations.
Produce visually rich reports, presentations, boards, and documentation using InDesign and PowerPoint.
Support community engagement and outreach activities, including workshops and meetings, both in-person and virtual.
Assist in business development, including proposal and interview preparations.

Qualifications
10-15 years of consulting experience in urban design and planning, with advanced knowledge of California practices, including urban housing, mixed-use infill, transit-oriented development, and complete streets.
Advanced degree in urban design or planning (e.g., MAUD, MLAUD, MUP) and an undergraduate degree in architecture or landscape architecture (e.g., BArch, BLA), or equivalent.
Experience managing complex projects, supervising teams, providing design feedback, and supporting business development.
Proven ability to incorporate client and community feedback into design strategies.
Strong presentation, design, and graphic communication skills, with the ability to tell compelling stories through presentations.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, and Excel; Lumion or similar rendering software is preferred.
Work Environment
Office setting with hybrid work options available.
Physical Demands
Sitting for extended periods; ability to lift 15 pounds.
Travel
Limited travel may be necessary.
